Casting Policies
Serendipity maintains a commitment to telling our stories well, and, in terms of casting, that means putting the right actor in the right role. What follows are some general casting guidelines and policies we have developed over the past few years in order to keep our relationships with actors consistent, positive, and strong.
Actors are always encouraged to submit their headshots and resumes for our casting files. Please make sure your phone number and email address are listed on your resume. However, please do not email your submissions. Rather, mail your materials to:

All of Serendipity's auditions are by invitation only.
Serendipity holds general auditions each year typically in April or May. We use these auditions to help cast the productions in our season as well as other projects throughout the year such as workshops and readings of new plays. Space is limited in these auditions and priority is given to actors who have not attended general auditions in the past, actors who are new to Chicago, and actors who may fit the specific needs of our season. General auditions are always advertised in the PerformInk newspaper.
For all of Serendipity's season productions, we cast 2 to 3 understudies who are generally responsible for learning 1 or 2 roles in the show. It is our policy that understudies receive at least two guaranteed performances during the run of the show. The exact dates and roles are generally negotiated with the director before the show opens.
